Centre County 4-H Robotics recently competed in the Northeast Robotics Club’s 10th annual Battle on the Parkway competition, located in Philadelphia. This combat robotics competition had 84 robots participating. We competed in the 30lb “Sportsman’s” division, which bans high-energy spinning weapons. Our robot, CLOMP, had a large bucket as its main weapon. It slammed the bucket on top of the opponent, trapping them inside. We performed reasonably well, losing our first match to a spiked hammer that tore the bucket apart from the inside. We won our second match against a flywheel-powered flipper by judges decision, and won our third match by knockout against a lifter/drum sander by unplugging its battery. We lost our fourth and final match against a robot armed with a lifting arm, by judges decision. We were the crowd favorite for the entire tournament, and also won the coolest robot trophy. Our team learned a lot while building this robot, and are hoping to use many of the skills we learned in next years FIRST Robotics Competition.
